On Jan 10th, NHS led by Melanie Vickmark and an 8th-grade Leadership class taught by Kaila Capouch, plus a couple of girls basketball players headed up to Fargo to participate in Feed My Starving Children. Our crew of 34 packed rice and essential food for 2 hours. Our goal was to fill as many boxes as possible to be shipped to countries all over the world that are in poverty. Together there were a total of 1500 people including many schools who were felt inspired to make a difference. When our shift ended, we all gathered and were told we filled over 1500 boxes. This means 940 kids will be fed for a full year giving them HOPE for tomorrow.

"Here is a photo of last week's winner, and tip of the spear for LPA Robotics! Coal Ward has shown great veteran leadership, taking on tasks that he knows needs to be done and guiding some of the rookies. This is why he is the "Tip of the Spear" this week!"

The robotics team is hard at work and Mr. K implemented an award system (weekly and end-of-season) for a couple of things. The first is an endurance award: these students have been to every meeting during the week (all 5 days a week) and a stand-out award, for one student who maybe solved a problem that has been giving us a tough time or came up with a great idea that we are implementing. This week, we have the following award winners: -Tip of the Spear award: Riley Malvick Riley solved the problem of our robot's wireless communication, which has been giving us problems all week. He took it upon himself to figure it out. He also came up with and implemented a funding idea that we will be presenting soon! Further, his willingness to teach less experienced team members has proven that he is a team player! -Endurance award (there day in and day out): Aiden Anderson and Coal Ward Congratulations! There is still time to join the robotics teams; if you are interested reach out to Mr. K at dklier@lpa.k12.mn.us
