Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

What is PBIS?

Lake Park Audubon Elementary School has implemented a behavior management system recommended by the Minnesota Department of Education. The program is called Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). A school team has been trained by the State Department of Education, and concepts that fit our elementary school's philosophy have been adopted for our school. In general, PBIS is a proactive program that provides a framework for teaching positive behaviors rather than merely reacting to negative behaviors. The PBIS slogan for LPA Elementary School is: “LPA Students ARRR.... Responsible, Respectful, and Ready.” These concepts are taught positively in all areas of our school and community including the cafeteria, playground, hallways, bathrooms, classrooms, and gymnasiums. A system for rewarding students is in place at our school. These rewards include “Caught Being Good Green Slips,” “Reward Coins,” and “Principal's Awards” for larger accomplishments. Assemblies and displays recognizing these awards will call public attention to the positive accomplishments of our students.

It is a source of great pride for Lake Park Audubon to be an Ambassador School for this initiative.
