Treats for Troops Announces Changes-Year 3

Members of the Lake Park Audubon National Honor Society will be collecting “Treats for Troops” once again this year; however, the change in how they approached their goal the last two years will remain the same. Historically, students have gone door-to-door, asking for “Treats for Troops,” and have had a resounding positive response. That response resulted in over 80 pounds, of mostly candy, being sent to active troop members in the past several years. While the “treats” are greatly appreciated, the commanding officers may not have seen it as a part of a healthy diet and regime for their troops. Thus, the request for healthier “treats” will be implemented once again this year. Some of the recommended treats that will be accepted include: “packaged coffee, jerky, pretzels, snack crackers, trail mix, and hunting/fishing/sports magazines.” Liquids cannot be shipped abroad to the troops and will not be accepted.

The LPA NHS will accept donations of the healthier options at the LPA High School or will collect them upon request up through Monday, November 4th. The Lake Park Auxiliary has once again agreed to help with the shipment of the items. If you have items to donate or an enlisted service member from the LPA area that you would like to recognize, please contact the LPA NHS adviser, Cheryl Hogie at or school phone 218-325-0754.
