We Love Reading at LPA

Snapchat / Chat Rooms - We have had a recent uptick in the amount of bullying, harassment, and unkind behavior being reported from home in 4th-6th Grade Snapchat / Message Groups. We will do our best to support kindness and address any harassment that carries into the school. I respect that decisions at home are yours to make but ask that families consider deleting these apps or regularly monitoring content to help support all students' wellbeing.

During the month of March we will celebrate our love of reading at LPA Elementary through a variety of activities organized by Mrs. Osborne, our school librarian. We will kick things off this Friday with guest readers in each classroom from the community and school sharing their love of reading. We will celebrate different Dr. Seuss books throughout the month with dress up days for students and staff.

We encourage you to take time during the month to celebrate reading together as a family. Reading at home has the single largest impact on your student’s success in school compared to other homework. Students who read at home for 20 minutes each night are exposed to 1.8 million words per year and score 90% higher than their peers when determining reading levels. Students who average less than 5 minutes each night of reading are exposed to 282,000 words per year, and students reading an average of 1 minute per night are only exposed to 8,000 words per year. In other words, it would take a student who reads an average of 1 minute a night 1 full year to be exposed to the same amount of words a student reading 20 minutes a night sees in 2 days!
