Screening

Ready…Set…Grow!

The early childhood years from birth to the start of Kindergarten are an important time of rapid learning and growth. Early childhood screening is a quick and simple check of how your child is doing at 3 or 4. Screening identifies, at an early stage, possible health or learning concerns so that children can get help before starting school.

Is there a charge?

Early Childhood Screening is free and required for all Minnesota children during preschool or before entering Kindergarten.

Early Childhood Screening helps you:

Find out how your child is doing with his/her development, hearing, vision, and speech.

Connects you and your child to early childhood programs and community services.

Helps find answers to your parenting questions.

What happens during a screening?

Children will attend screening with a parent or family member.

Parents talk with a nurse or early childhood educator about their child’s development, immunizations and any parenting concerns.

Children will spend 60 minutes or more having their hearing, vision, speech, and motor skills checked.

All of this information is important for your child’s learning and readiness for future school success.

After the screening you will be given a report of your child’s learning and growth. Information on community resources will also be available.

When is my child’s screening appointment?

Lake Park-Audubon ECFE will conduct Early Childhood Screening at various times. Screening is tentatively scheduled for October and June . Please call the ECFE office at 218.325.0754 to schedule an appointment. Parents of 3 and 4 year olds on our district census will be receiving a packet with your screening appointment time and documents that need to be completed before you arrive at screening. If your family is new to the LPA district please call to be included in the screening.

MINNESOTA STATE LAW REQUIRES ALL STUDENTS TO BE SCREENED DURING PRESCHOOL OR PRIOR TO ENTERING KINDERGARTEN!
